RIYADH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has approved awarding the King Abdulaziz Medal of Third Class to 200 Saudi men and women in recognition of their organ donations, whether as living donors or from brain-dead individuals.
The decision follows a rise in organ donations among Saudi citizens.
According to the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation (SCOT), 1,706 organ donations were recorded in 2024—a 4.9% increase from 2023.
These included 1,284 kidney and 422 liver transplants.
SCOT also reported that 540,346 people have registered their intent to donate organs after death via the Tawakkalna app.
In 2024, 393 organs were transplanted from deceased donors, marking a 12.3% increase from the previous year.
